Text Box: Wierton Reservoir

Text Box: Sitting on a hill overlooking the Kent countryside, Wierton Reservoir is fast maturing into an excellent fishery. Catches have increased dramatically in the last few years and the fish are growing very quickly. The reservoir is not so large as to be daunting, and has numerous features such as an island, weed beds and variable banks.
There is good fishing close in, especially in the narrow channel by the island, where there is some strong weed growth in the summer.
This is a very versatile water, with a wide range of methods and baits proving successful. It is possible to catch all day long on the whip with maggot, with a range of roach perch and rudd in your keepnet. The longer pole will find better quality roach, and perhaps the odd bream on sweetcorn. The waggler angler will find much the same, with a bed of groundbait increasing the chance of a good bag of skimmers. Likewise, the feeder will seldom fail, with large bags of good bream regularly taken.
Added to this, the good head of carp range to well over 30lb and can be caught anywhere from the margins up to the edge of the island. I have had several fish well into double figures on worm fished close in.
If you feel you need to strengthen an aspect of your fishing, this is the ideal water to practise on, as nothing brings improvement faster than catching fish.
Please note that barbless hooks must be used on this fishery, and boilies are banned.
